From the Desk of Colleen Corbin Program/Parent Coordinator
The Little Learners Preschool is an at-risk (not Special Education) program that serves three, four and five-year old children. An at-risk child is one that is experiencing a delay in fine or gross motor skills, concepts, language or social skills needed for school. Young children at some point in the course of development may experience a delay in one or more of these areas. By offering a comprehensive screening program, a child with delay can be identified and enrolled into an early intervention program that will help the child overcome the delay so when they enter school, remedial services may not be necessary.
The program is funded by a yearly renewable grant from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Currently, the program is able to serve eighty children in two, half-day programs at Oak Valley School and Channahon Pioneer Path School. Each class meets for two and one-half hours, five days a week, Monday through Friday.
Parent/Teacher conferences occur twice throughout the year.
Our curriculum is based on the Creative Curriculum for preschool. It is a researched and theory based curriculum aligned with the Illinois Early Learning Standards for children ages 3-5.
Little Learners Preschool used the Work Sampling Assessment, a comprehensive approach in the evaluation and tracking of the development of each child. Children are evaluated based on framework of the most current knowledge about how children grow and develop.
The Little Learner’s program offers Parent Education Meetings, a Parent Volunteer Organization, Family Nights, Exploration Days, and field trips, as well as Lending Library. |
