WELCOME BACK STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO THE 2010 – 2011 SCHOOL YEAR!

I hope everyone has had a fun and relaxing summer break and you are coming to school with renewed enthusiasm. I am looking forward to seeing the kids and how they have grown this past couple of months.

I have posted the bus routes for Laraway School (grades 1^st through 8^th) for your information. There may be a few additional changes the first couple weeks of school – but these are the stops and times we will be starting with. It is very important to have your child at the bus stop 5 to 10 minutes BEFORE THE ASSIGNED TIME. I have also posted the bus rules that I ask you please read WITH your child before the start of school. This is to protect your child at the bus stop, and for his/her safety while riding the bus. If you request a change to their bus stop other than your address, I will need a letter stating the change, signed by you and a WORKING phone number where you can be reached. Your child may bring the letter to their teacher (who will see that I get it), or they may bring it into my office (across from the library). If your child gets picked up or dropped off at a sitters, I will need her name, address and phone number on the letter, signed and dated by you. This will be kept on file in case of an emergency or a change in bus times so I can notify you or the sitter. Just a reminder: Schools all over are starting up now. BE AWARE of kids standing on corners, crossing the streets and getting on and off the bus. Look for amber flashing lights on school buses and especially the red flashing lights and STOP ARM. These mean that children are in the vicinity and the bus will be stopping within a few feet. DO NOT try to outrun the school bus, as children may be crossing in front of the bus. SLOW DOWN, BE AWARE AND KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE!!

HERE ARE SOME RULES TO REMIND YOUR CHILD FOR THEIR SAFETY:

1. REMAIN IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT AT ALL TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN BUS IS MOVING.

2. NO SHOUTING, SCREAMING, PROFANITY OR DISRESPECTFUL LANGUAGE.

3. NO EATING, DRINKING, NO GUM OR CANDY.

4. KEEP THE BUS CLEAN AND IN GOOD CONDITION.

5. WHEN CROSSING THE STREET, WAIT FOR THE BUS DRIVER TO SIGNAL YOU ACROSS.

6. KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FEET TO YOURSELVES. SIT FACING FORWARD AND KEEP AISLES CLEAR AT ALL TIMES.

7. ALL ITEMS MUST BE LEFT IN YOUR BOOKBAG. NO PENCILS, PENS, SCISSORS MAY BE CARRIED IN HANDS.
